Sunday 25 th September Real 60 v Wigmore Youth

Game 1 (Real 60 1 – Wigmore Youth 1)

This was a very even match between two good teams. Chances fell to either team throughout the game but good goalkeeping and last ditch defending ensured that the first half ended goaless. Real came out strong in the second half and finally managed to break Wigmore’s defence down to take the lead. Shortly after Wigmore were awarded a free kick 20 yards out following a jinking run from Morgan Ashenden. Ross Wilkins stepped up and curled a Beckham like free kick round the wall and into the top corner.

The final minutes saw end to end football with both sides squandering chances to take maximum points.

A point each was a fair result in this fantastic game.

Game 2 (Real 60 3 – Wigmore Youth 1)

Real 60 fielded a very strong side and soon stamped their authority on the first half. The Wigmore defence struggled to cope with the movement of the Real forward line and found themselves 3 down at the interval.

Wigmore never lost belief and came out for the second half full of commitment. They began to dominate the midfield and surging runs from Edward Grant had the Real 60 defence on their heels. Wigmore managed to claw 1 back with a poachers finish from Branden Walsh, but despite several further chances were unable to further reduce the deficit. Wigmore showed great character in the second half and managed to prevent the dangerous Real 60 strikers from increasing their tally.

A difficult first half but the boys should be very proud of the second half performance.
