The half started with an even contest between both midfields with very few clear cut chances created by either side. As the half went on the Kenilworth strikers began to see more of the ball and were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box. The Kenilworth striker stepped up and struck the kick past the Wigmore wall into the net.
The second half began with Wigmore looking much more positive and finally managing to thread some passes through to the strikers.Wigmore drew level with a fantastically worked goal. Edward Grant surged forward with the ball avoiding a tackle with some lovely footwork. He squared the ball to Daniel Baird who controlled with his first touch and threaded a ball to Morgan Ashenden with the next. Morgan ran onto the ball and buried his shot past the keeper.
Both sides continued to threaten but some fine defending by man of the match Ben Reeves and saves by Reece Kember ensure the game ends even.
Wigmore looked very positive straight from the kick off. Man of the match Ross Wilkins controlled things in midfield, picking up most of the loose balls and firing long passes into the danger area.
Midway through the half Branden Walsh picked up the ball in a wide position and went on a positive run into the box and fired a shot across the keeper into the far corner.
Wigmore deserved to finish the half ahead and were determined to press forward in the second period in search of further goals.
Wigmore’s tempo in the second half kept pressure on the Kenilworth defence who made tackle after tackle to keep Wigmore at bay. They were finally broken down by a long throw into the box which was nodded in by Branden Walsh for his second.
Kenilworth pushed hard in the late stages but solid defending by Joseph Knaust secures the win.
A great team effort secures a win and hopefully the start of a good cup run.
