Sunday 13 th November 2005 Wigmore Youth v Horsted (League cup 2 nd round)

Game : Wigmore Youth 1 - Horstead 1

Two in-form teams battled it out in this end to end encounter. Wigmore had slightly more of the play in the first half but struggled to create any clear scoring opportunities. The deadlock was broken when man of the match Morgan Ashenden fired in a low corner which deflected off a Horstead defender and ended up in the back of the net. The half ended with Wigmore 1 to the good but a determined Horstead side rallied after the break and began to pile on the pressure.

Wigmore defenders Ben Reeves and Edward Grant made several important interceptions to protect their lead but some fine Horstead play resulted in an equalising goal.

At 1 all the game could have gone either way but both keepers ensured that the second leg would start with honours even.

Game 2: Wigmore Youth 3 – Horstead 0

Wigmore had the lion share of the ball in the early stages and soon took the lead with a neat finish from Ross Wilkins through a crowd of players.

The goal triggered some better play from Horstead who started to enjoy some possession. They then had some scoring chances but the only time keeper Ryan Jinman was beaten, Ross Wilkins managed to slide in and clear off the line.

In the second half Wigmore stamped their authority on the game. A good move down the left wing led to a pin point cross into the area which was neatly tucked away by man of the match James Perrier. Soon after, midfield danger man Branden Walsh won possession, skilfully avoided the Horstead challenges and bulged the back of the net with a fierce shot.

Credit to Horstead who never gave up. Their search for a consolation was in vein as they found defender Joseph Knaust in dominant form.

Wigmore ran out 4 – 1 aggregate winners in this 5 th versus 6 th in the league thriller.
