Sunday 8 th January 2006 Wigmore Youth v Swallows (League Cup Quarter-Final)

Game 1 Wigmore Youth 0 – Swallows 3

Wigmore found themselves under constant pressure from the dangerous Swallows attack. It was backs to the wall stuff throughout the first half as Swallows took advantage of playing down the slope. They took the lead when Ben Reeves unfortunately directed a dangerous cross into his own net. They soon doubled their advantage and went into the break 2-0 to the good.

Wigmore struggled to find their best form following the mid-season break and were unable to trouble the Swallows keeper in the second half. Swallows increased their lead further with a fantastic volley from 20 yards out and continued to look dangerous but were denied further goals by several outstanding saves from man of the match Ryan Jinman.

Game 2 Wigmore Youth 2 – Swallows 2

The Wigmore players knew what was needed to book a place in the semi-finals and began the game looking like a come back was on the cards. They had plenty of possession in and around the Swallows box but were unable to find the back of the net.

Swallows took the lead just before half time with a break away goal which came against the run of play.

Wigmore changed formation for the second half in search of much needed goals

But left themselves exposed at the back and conceded another well worked goal.

Wigmore then came to life and began to dominate play. They eventually pulled a goal back through Morgan Ashenden who also saw several attempts go narrowly wide.

They were then given real hope with a nice finish from Ronan Luckhurst to level at 2-2. Some fine goalkeeping prevented Wigmore from scoring any further goals although they did create some fine chances following determined play from man of the match Jack Bryant.
