The first half was a battle between two well matched midfields. Both sides displayed some fine passing but failed to produce many clear scoring opportunities.
The game became stretched in the second half as players began to tire, but credit to both sides who showed belief and provided a fantastic climax. With 2 minutes left on the clock Riverside broke behind the Wigmore midfield and took the lead with a thunderous strike from outside the box. With seconds remaining Wigmore strikers Morgan Ashenden and Branden Walsh played a short corner routine which resulted in Walsh firing home from a tight angle with virtually the last kick of the game.
This 0-0 draw was excitement from start to finish. Wigmore played with the slope in the first period and were able to put continuous pressure on Riverside. However, despite several corners and through balls into the box they were unable to find the back of the net.
Riverside began to display their own talents after the break and put the Wigmore defence on the back foot. They were always dangerous coming forward but found Wigmore’s Daniel Baird in outstanding form. At the final whistle both sets of supporters sportingly showed their appreciation for the great entertainment both teams had provided.
